The rapid pace of innovation in information and communication technologies (ICT) is impacting every aspect of Caribbean life. There is a clarion call for the region to keep abreast with and understand the potential of these new and revolutionary technologies to overcome the challenges faced by the Caribbean and to drive meconomic growth.
It is imperative that Caribbean leaders consider the opportunities presented by the ICT revolution and adopt the technologies that can transform all sectors and promote social and economic development.
Against this backdrop, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, in collaboration with the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), will be hosting the ICT Week and Symposium at the Sandals Grande Resort and Spa from March 20-24, 2017. Ms. Bernadette Lewis, the Secretary General of the CTU noted that the theme for the Symposium is “ICT: Driving 21st Century Intelligent Services.” She explained the purpose of the Week’s activities as being “to raise awareness of the ICT revolution, the implications for policy, legislation and regulations and how they can be employed to transform existing operations; to foster social inclusion; provide ICT-based the challenges we face in the region and promote national and regional development.”
Les activitats de la setmana inclouen una sèrie d'esdeveniments TIC que inclouen una Conferència Smart Caribbean, 15è Seminari Ministerial Estratègic de TIC del Carib, 3a Reunió d'Actors del Carib: Ciberseguretat i Ciberdelinqüència i culmina amb el Programa de Formació sobre Diners Mòbils per a la Inclusió Financera.
A la Conferència Smart Caribbean, Huawei, el patrocinador platí de la Setmana de les TIC, presentarà com les noves TIC com la computació en núvol, la virtualització, el Big Data, el Sistema d'Informació Geogràfica (GIS), l'Internet de les coses (IoT) i el desenvolupament de programari de l'ecosistema. El kit (eSDK) es pot utilitzar per crear solucions del Carib intel·ligent completes i integrals. Les solucions inclouen la ciutat segura, centres d'operacions de ciutat intel·ligent, serveis governamentals únics, transport intel·ligent i aplicacions per a la salut, l'educació i el turisme.
El 15è Seminari Ministerial Estratègic sobre les TIC del Carib se centrarà en l'aplicació de les TIC al sector dels serveis financers i explorarà noves maneres de proporcionar serveis financers segurs per a tots els ciutadans; l'ús de criptomonedes; ciberseguretat i formes innovadores de finançar el desenvolupament de les TIC a la regió.
La III Reunió d'Actors Interesats del Carib: Ciberseguretat i Ciberdelinqüència facilitarà les discussions per establir les mesures i els recursos adequats per implementar el Pla d'Acció de Ciberseguretat i Ciberdelinqüència del Carib.
El programa de formació sobre diners mòbils per a la inclusió financera, facilitat per GSMA, pretén oferir una visió en profunditat dels serveis de diners mòbils: com funcionen, les parts interessades i els facilitadors reguladors, així com qüestions crítiques com la interoperabilitat entre xarxes. .
