The Zimbabwe UNWTO Candidate for Secretary of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Eng. Walter Mzembi, landed an AfricanUnion (AU) Leadership position in Lome, Togo on 17 March 2017.
African Tourism, Energy and Infrastructure Ministers in Togo for the AU STC Meetings reaffirm their faith in Zimbabwe leadership in Tourism and elected the Hon. Eng. Walter Mzembi, Tourism & Hospitality Industry Government of Zimbabwe, as their Vice Chair of the Bureau of the AU-STC.
This is seen as another important step to accept the Zimbabwe minister to lead UNWTO starting 2018.
La delegació de Zimbabwe a la primera sessió ordinària del Comitè Tècnic Especialitzat (STC) de la Unió Africana (UA) sobre transports, infraestructures transcontinentals i interregionals, energia i turisme, dirigida pel viceministre de Turisme i Hostaleria, l’hon. Anastancia Ndhlovu (diputada), ha fet que Zimbabwe estigui orgullós després que la nació del sud d'Àfrica fos elegida per unanimitat al càrrec de vicepresidenta. L'AU-STC es va reunir el 17 de març de 2017 a Lomé, Togo, i va escollir la Mesa sobre la base de la norma número 16 del Reglament de la Comissió d'Infraestructures i Energia de la Unió Africana.
La Mesa està formada pel president, tres vicepresidents i un ponent. Zimbabwe va ser elegit com a segon vicepresident, en representació del sector turístic i de la regió sud-africana a la UA-STC durant els propers dos anys, fins al 3. Els altres membres de la Mesa que es reuniran una vegada cada any són Togo -President (representant el sector del transport i la regió d’Àfrica Occidental), Mauritània-2a vicepresidenta (en representació del sector de l’energia i la regió del nord d’Àfrica), Etiòpia-2019a vicepresidenta (en representació del sector de l’energia i la regió d’Àfrica oriental) i Congo-reporter (en representació del Sector del transport i la regió centreafricana). L’Oficina és l’òrgan executiu de ministres responsables dels sectors d’infraestructures, energia, transports i turisme encarregat de proporcionar el paper de lideratge en matèria de política i supervisió als programes de treball de la Comissió d’Infraestructures i Energia de la Unió Africana i del Comitè tècnic especialitzat d’experts.
L'elecció de Zimbabwe a l'Oficina de la Comissió d'Infraestructures i Energia de la Unió Africana ha arribat amb prou feines un any després d'un nou mandat amb èxit de la presidència de la UA de Zimbabwe per part de l'excel·lència el president, Cde RG Mugabe, del gener del 2015 al gener del 2016. Després en aquestes eleccions, l'exaltat viceministre l'hon. Anastancia Ndhlovu va dir: "Aquestes eleccions són l'aprovació i l'aval de la gran feina feta pel fill gran d'Àfrica, la seva excel·lència, el president RG Mugabe, quan va dirigir la Cimera de la UA cap a una adopció de l'agenda 2063, ancorada al 2030 Objectius de desenvolupament sostenible. De fet, és molt emocionant i només confirma el llegat de la inigualable direcció del seu excel·lent president ”.
The election of Zimbabwe to lead the Southern Region of Africa in the Bureau of the African Union Commission on Infrastructure and Energy representing the Tourism sector, is happening when the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon. Dr. Walter Mzembi has successfully submitted his application to become the next Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), for the next 4 years, from 2018 to 2021, to the Headquarters of the Madrid-based global tourism organization. Hon. Dr Walter Mzembi is currently continuing with his world-wide outreach effort to garner international support for the countrys bid represented by him to secure the top job at the UNWTO. Elections for the next Secretary General will take place at the UNWTO Headquarters in Madrid, Spain from 11 to 12 May 2017, during the course of the 105th session of the Organisations 33 member Executive Council meeting.
Asked what the election into AU-STC Bureau means to Zimbabwe’s bid for the top UNWTO post, Deputy Minister Anastancia Ndhlovu had this to say, “I can confirm that the election of Zimbabwe further re-affirms the visionary leadership qualities of Hon. Minister Mzembi, as the current Chairperson of the UNWTO Regional Commission for Africa (CAF) and the African Union-endorsed candidate for the UNWTO post, who has been very articulate on Zimbabwe’s and African tourism issues at a global scale. Therefore, this election will definitely be a boost to Hon. Minister Mzembi’s election bid, since the policy issues we pushed through to the apex of the African Union Commission on Infrastructure and Energy today reflect his vision for Africa’s tourism and the global tourism industry”.
L’elecció unànime de Zimbabwe per liderar l’oficina AU-STC en l’àmbit del turisme va venir en el context d’una prolongada discussió a les reunions de STC que van veure Zimbabwe posicionar-se per la transversalització i la institucionalització del turisme a l’Agenda 2063 de la UA i les seves estructures, respectivament. La presentació i l’articulació en lliures esterlines d’aquestes qüestions polítiques per part de Zimbabwe va pagar dividend quan la Comissió d’Infraestructures i Energia de la Unió Africana va acordar establir una direcció o unitat de turisme a les estructures de l’Organització el desembre de 2018, per tal de proporcionar suport i coordinació de les polítiques. la proposta d’Organització Africana de Turisme. Actualment, no hi ha presència física del turisme a totes les estructures de les AUC, malgrat la celebració del sector com a tercera activitat econòmica després dels combustibles i productes químics, a escala mundial.
The UNWTO 2016 Report indicates that global tourism grew by 4.6% in the year 2015 while Africa declined by 3% in the same year, the trend Zimbabwe is fighting to reverse for the benefit of all African countries and other developing tourist destinations of the world.
